Beatson Cancer Charity is honoured to have been chosen by Jamielee and Alicia as their charity of choice as they compete in the Go Radio & Western House Hotel Dream Wedding Competition.

The couple are fundraising in memory of their grandparents, who both received care connected to The Beatson, turning personal loss into meaningful action to support other families facing cancer.

Jamielee and Alicia met in March 2019 at just 16 years old. Both had left school and were uncertain about what direction their lives would take. From the very beginning, they supported one another — helping each other find employment, secure apprenticeships and begin building a stable future together.

When the COVID-19 pandemic forced them apart physically, they stayed connected through nightly FaceTime calls and shared film nights from their own homes. During that time, Jamielee’s gran was diagnosed with cancer and sadly passed away. Witnessing the care she received had a lasting impact and inspired Jamielee to change career path, becoming a home carer dedicated to supporting others through difficult days.

For Alicia, The Beatson’s care had already touched her family years earlier. In 2016, while she was in Primary 7 preparing to move to high school, her gran was diagnosed with cancer. Alicia remembers the kindness and reassurance of nurses who visited her gran at home, supporting not only her gran but the entire family. She sadly passed away in December 2017, but the compassion shown during that time has never been forgotten.

After the pandemic, Jamielee and Alicia moved in with Alicia’s papa. Not long after, he too was diagnosed with cancer. The couple supported him throughout his end-of-life care, ensuring he was surrounded by love and dignity. Although incredibly painful, that period strengthened their relationship and reinforced their determination to give back.

Now 23, Jamielee and Alicia have bought their first home, welcomed their dog Blaze, and have begun IUI treatment as they plan to start their family. Alongside these milestones, they are fundraising for Beatson Cancer Charity through the Dream Wedding competition. The couple who raises the highest amount for their chosen cause will win their wedding package, and Jamielee and Alicia are determined to honour their loved ones by making every donation count.

“We chose Beatson Cancer Charity because its work is deeply personal to us,” they shared. “We’ve seen first-hand how important that care is for families. Fundraising feels like a way to say thank you and help other people who are facing similar circumstances.”
