A new Scottish cancer charity launching today in partnership with Beatson Cancer Charity aims to change how patients across Scotland prepare for and recover from treatment – helping people face surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy stronger, fitter and more confident from the moment of diagnosis.

Prehab2Rehab Scotland has officially launched as a new charity working in collaboration with Beatson Cancer Charity to deliver targeted prehabilitation and rehabilitation support for people affected by cancer. The charity is the first in Scotland dedicated solely to this specialist “wraparound” approach, combining physical training, nutrition and emotional wellbeing alongside clinical care.

The new charity has been created to address a growing gap in cancer care: helping patients build strength, resilience and confidence before treatment begins and supporting recovery afterwards, at a time when many people feel overwhelmed and vulnerable. Its programmes include personalised exercise, nutritional guidance and stressmanagement strategies for patients awaiting surgery, chemotherapy or radiotherapy, followed by structured rehabilitation plans addressing fatigue, muscle loss and emotional wellbeing, with peer support and mindfulness built in.

Services will be delivered in person at the Beatson Cancer Centre Wellbeing Centre and at the Prehab2Rehab clinic in Paisley, as well as online through live classes and onetoone virtual coaching. All support is provided by accredited cancer rehabilitation professionals working closely with clinicians at the Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre (BWoSCC).

The launch follows a successful pilot programme delivered in partnership with Beatson Cancer Charity in 2024, which demonstrated strong early outcomes and growing patient demand. On the back of that success, Prehab2Rehab Scotland has now been established as a registered charity and formally appointed to provide services on an ongoing basis working alongside the BWoSCC.

Prehab2Rehab Scotland was cofounded by Ludovic Wilson Roy, a qualified Health Coach and Cancer Rehabilitation professional, who began offering free prehabilitation support in 2023 while working alongside Professor Susan Moug at Paisley Royal Alexandra Hospital.

One patient, Lynsey Daly, described the impact of the programme on her recovery. “Ludo gave me emotional, nutritional and physical support and built my resilience so I knew what to expect and was in a good place mentally. After surgery, he taught me how to walk confidently and sit and stand without holding on. I am back at work and now run a 5k every Saturday. I would not be where I am today without his help. It’s made such a difference to me and my whole family.”

Gillian Hailstones, Chief Executive of Beatson Cancer Charity, said: “We are delighted to work in partnership with Prehab2Rehab Scotland as they launch this new charity. The early feedback from patients, families and clinical colleagues has been overwhelmingly positive, with clear benefits already being seen. This collaboration strengthens selfmanagement, builds resilience and addresses unmet holistic needs within cancer care across the West of Scotland.”
