Yvonne Love and Michelle Fulton share their story to help raise funds for others facing cancer this Christmas.

When 33-year old Stephanie Thomson was diagnosed with an extrarenal rhabdoid tumour in October 2022, her family’s lives changed forever. The rare form of cancer is exceptionally uncommon in adults.

Stephanie underwent treatment at The Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre and received care and support from Beatson Cancer Charity. Despite initial positive news, her cancer sadly returned just seven weeks after she was given the all-clear. Stephanie passed away on 20th July 2024, with her family by her side.

Her mum, Yvonne Love, and sister, Michelle Fulton, are now supporting Beatson Cancer Charity’s Bauble Appeal in her memory.

“Thanks to your generosity, Stephanie received exceptional care and support throughout her treatment,” said Yvonne. “Everything about The Beatson is second to none. From the moment you walked through the door, there was a sense of hope.”

Stephanie loved spending time at The Beatson’s Wellbeing Centre, where she enjoyed manicures, massages and moments of calm away from the ward.

“It made a huge difference – not just to Stephanie but to us too,” said Michelle. “Having a calm space gave us strength to support her.”

Before her diagnosis, Stephanie worked as a hairdresser and dedicated her time to helping others. Even during her treatment, she organised Christmas gifts for patients on her ward so no one would be without a present on Christmas morning.

“Stephanie loved Christmas,” Yvonne added. “Supporting the Bauble Appeal feels right – we don’t want her to be forgotten, and we know she’d be happy knowing she’s still helping others.”

“We're deeply grateful to Yvonne and Michelle for bravely sharing Stephanie's story. By donating to the Bauble Appeal, you can help bring care and comfort to more people and their families facing cancer.”

Beatson Cancer Charity’s Bauble Appeal raises vital funds to support patients and families across the west of Scotland during the festive season and beyond.
