We are incredibly proud to share that Tracey Howe, a remarkable supporter of Beatson Cancer Charity, has been nominated for the PEUGEOT Attitude PRIDE Awards Europe, supported by British Airways.

Tracey, 61, is being recognised for her incredible commitment to walking the entire coastline of Britain - a 12-month, 5,000-mile trek - in memory of her late wife Angela, who passed away from blood cancer in 2023.

The Journey

Tracey and Angela shared 37 years together after meeting as healthcare professionals in 1986. Following Angela’s passing, Tracey was overwhelmed with grief. Inspired by the memoir Wild and a healing walk through the Sahara, she committed to a once-in-a-lifetime challenge: to walk the UK coast and raise funds for five charities that supported them through Angela’s illness.

“Beatson was our local cancer hospital. Angela had amazing care there,” Tracey explains. “Walking gave me time to process it all, step by step.”

Now halfway through her journey, Tracey has faced fierce winds, difficult terrain and long, emotional days, but also the kindness of strangers and support from loved ones.

Raising Money for Five Charities

So far, Tracey has raised over £40,000 for five charities: Beatson Cancer Charity, Marie Curie, Brainstrust, Breast Cancer Now and CoppaFeel.

Along the way, she gives away handmade crocheted hearts to people she meets, a symbol of love and remembrance. Even Olympic diver Tom Daley has shown support, donating crocheted hearts to help raise funds.

“Sometimes people burst into tears when I hand them a heart,” Tracey shares. “It’s a powerful way to connect.”
