Beatson Cancer Charity has awarded a £6,858 grant to fund festive decorations, gifts and seasonal treats across The Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre and its satellite sites, helping to make hospital stays a little brighter for patients during the festive period.
The funding has also enabled the creation of a Christmas grotto within the paediatric zone at The Beatson, providing a warm and welcoming space for children undergoing treatment over the festive season. In addition, raffle prizes will be awarded to clinical teams as a thank-you for their dedication and outstanding care for patients throughout the year.
In the paediatric and sarcoma radiotherapy department, children have played a central role in decorating the space, helping to create an inclusive and uplifting environment during what can be a long period of treatment.

Jill Scott, Paediatric and Sarcoma Specialist Radiographer at The Beatson, said:
“Some of the children we see are with us for several weeks over the Christmas period, and for many families that can be incredibly hard. Involving the children in decorating the department helps them feel included and valued. It’s important they’re treated as people first, not just patients.”
The department has been transformed with Christmas trees, decorations throughout corridors and waiting areas, festive play and teenage rooms, and a planned visit from Santa on Christmas Eve - a much-loved tradition for young patients attending The Beatson at this time of year.
Jill added:
“The support from Beatson Cancer Charity allows us to refresh decorations, create something new and exciting, and make Christmas feel special for the children in our care. It means a great deal to both patients and staff.”
Graham Hart from Beatson Cancer Charity’s Funding Team said:
“This support makes a real difference during what can be a challenging time. Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, we’re able to bring warmth, joy and comfort to patients, families and staff across The Beatson at Christmas.”
