Three benches have been donated by supporters of Beatson Cancer Charity for patients at The Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre to use.

The benches were an idea from the charity to give patients and families somewhere to sit outside in the fresh air during their time at the hospital.

Three guests at our Beatson Ball in September at Cameron House Hotel last year bid £9,000 each in the auction to pay for one bench each. These benches have now been installed at the front of the The Beatson for patients and their families to enjoy.

Arnold Clark, Charlie & Marie Limond and The Simeone & Colaluca family each paid for a bench at the hospital.

L-R Martin Cawley Beatson Cancer Charity CEO, Valentina Simeone former patient and Kathleen McLaren Head of Trading at Beatson Cancer Charity.

Valentina Simeone is a former patient at The Beatson and her family own the Six by Nico restaurant chain.

She said: “We are so glad we are able to provide a small space for patients and loved ones to sit and take a moment outside and away from the noise of machines.

“It marks a significant time in my life and knowing I have left a special space there for myself and for others makes me very happy.”

Glasdon UK supplied the benches, which are environmentally friendly and made from recycled materials.

“It’s incredible to see the difference that donations can make with the recent renovations and new cafe. These developments will continue to make a huge difference to so many as they face some of life’s greatest challenges.”

Lee-Ann Edison, Head of Communications at Arnold Clark said: “At Arnold Clark, we’ve supported Beatson Cancer Charity for a number of years, so we were delighted to make a contribution at the Beatson Ball with the purchase of a new bench, which we hope will be a space where people can sit and find peace.

Charlie and Marie Limond, who are longtime supporters of our charity, said: “Having seen the lovely atmosphere in the Beatson Café, we were inspired to help to extend the space available and to encourage everyone to "sitfurabit " outside. We hope the bench is put to good use.”

Kathleen McLaren, head of trading at Beatson Cancer Charity, said: “Providing the benches outside the café has given patients and their families somewhere to sit outside in the fresh air, away from the wards and the waiting rooms.

“With our volunteers spending so much time outside keeping the gardens looking amazing, we thought it would be lovely to allow the patients somewhere to sit, reflect and enjoy the lovely gardens.”
