East Dunbartonshire school march for Beatson Cancer Charity

A school in East Dunbartonshire has raised over £2,500 for Beatson Cancer Charity. 

Bishopbriggs Academy organised a ‘farewell march’ for head teacher Mr Moulsdale, as he retires on Friday 8th October following a 16-year long career at the school. 

Lucie, who is in sixth year, came up with the idea and alongside the Captaincy Team, helped organise the event and the fundraising for our charity. 

The 4.1 mile walk along the canal took place on Sunday 3rd October, where 110 pupils and staff took part. 

Claire Kerr, depute head teacher and sixth year head at Bishopbriggs Academy, said: “Our school captain, Lucie, came up with the idea to organise a walking event from the school to a charity in the local area.  

“As this coincided with the Head Teacher’s final week at the school, the Captaincy Team aptly named the event ‘Moulsdale’s Farewell March’! 

“It was a fantastic morning out for pupils and staff and a great way to bring the school community together following the challenges of the pandemic.” 

The school has been a big supporter of our charity and has raised thousands of pounds for us over the years. 

Beatson Cancer Charity has a special place with the school after pupil Francesca Mancini was diagnosed with hodgkins lymphoma and sadly passed away five years ago. Francesca fundraised for the charity whilst attending the centre for treatment.

The Mancini family would like to express their thanks to Bishopbriggs Academy. May Mancini, Francesca's mum, said: "Thanks to Gordon Moulsdale ,his teaching team & his pupils for the support given to the Beatson in Francesca's Memory over the past 5 years.

"Francesca was proud to have been a Prefect at the school & Chiara will be joining the Academy next year. We can't thank them enough for the support given."
