Beatson Cancer Charity is encouraging people to share positive stories of Hope, to Celebrate, say Thanks and to Remember, to shine a spotlight on the Bauble Appeal. Everyone is invited to dedicate and hang a bauble and to help more cancer patients and their families across the West of Scotland and beyond.

Mother and Daughter, Kay and Morgan Logan, have kindly shared their story with us to help spread this message. They will appear in the charity's first ever TV advert, airing on STV in the run up to Christmas.

21-year-old Morgan Logan from Kilmarnock is thanking Beatson Cancer Charity supporters for helping her mum Kay Logan through her cancer treatment, after she was diagnosed with cervical cancer for the second time this year.

Morgan said:

“My mum was first diagnosed with cervical cancer in June 2014, she was only 41.

In 2019, she was given the all-clear. This was the best day ever – I hugged mum so tight, I’ve never felt so relieved. However, in July 2021, we were told that the cancer had returned, with vengeance. This time, the cancer had spread to her large and small intestines – she was taken into hospital for an emergency operation, and she is now living with a stoma bag, whilst undertaking regular chemotherapy sessions at The Beatson."

Everyone has their own reason to hang a Beatson Bauble. It may be to remember someone special, or to celebrate some good news. Perhaps you would like to thank the staff at The Beatson, or, give hope to people like Kay.

By donating to the Beatson Bauble Appeal you will help us to continue to provide care, love and hope to families this festive season and beyond. Everyone who donates will receive two baubles in the post – one to hang on their own tree at home, and one to send back to be hung on the Beatson tree.

The Beatson Bauble Appeal is even more important this year - it's a reminder to think of others - a small donation to a local charity makes a huge difference.

Martin Cawley, Beatson Cancer Charity CEO

Kirsty Kelly, Individual Giving Officer at Beatson Cancer Charity, said:

“The Beatson Bauble Appeal is a really special way to support people affected by cancer throughout the West of Scotland and beyond. It really is the true meaning of Christmas; giving a special gift to those in need, whilst getting your very own sentimental Bauble that you can keep forever."

Martin Cawley, CEO of Beatson Cancer Charity, said:

“Just like other charities, Beatson Cancer Charity has been affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. Fundraising events are only just beginning to take place again, so we still have a long way to go before we’ll be fully back on our feet.

That’s why the Beatson Bauble Appeal is even more important this year - it's a reminder to think of others - a small donation to a local charity makes a huge difference."

He added: "Christmas is a time of year where families come together, and while we take a moment to remember those who are no longer with us, we want to raise as much money as we can to fund research and continue delivering the unique care and support offered at centres across the west of Scotland. We’re asking everyone who has been touched in some way by the Beatson care to get involved.”

The Beatson Bauble Appeal has also been kindly supported by Beth Clyde and Jackie Long and her family who have shared their stories with us in the video below:

Beatson Bauble Campaign 2021

This Christmas, Beatson Cancer Charity is asking everyone who has been touched in some way by the care and support provided by The Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre and related hospitals to get involved to hang a Beatson Bauble, available with a donation from beatsoncancercharity.org/bauble. There is also a Winter Celebration event to attend and the virtual Santa Dash to help raise funds.

All funds raised from the appeal will help the charity provide specialist staff posts including nursing, radiography, physics and research-based staff as well as funding enhanced medical equipment, innovative service developments, novel research projects and educational initiatives to support new patients who attend the Beatson and its related facilities each year.

Please join in supporting Beatson Cancer Charity’s Bauble Appeal and hang a Beatson Bauble, available from beatsoncancercharity.org/bauble.

You can also donate by texting word BEATSON to 70560 to donate £10 or you can call 0141 212 0505.
