"Leaving a legacy can leave your mark on the world"

Stuart went through four months of gruelling chemo at The Beatson – the toughest time of his life. But the support and care he received from our funded post and Clinical Nurse Specialist Nicola meant he could have the “best day of my life” and will now be forever grateful to legacies left by our generous supporters.

This is Stuart’s story:

“My name is Stuart, and this is a picture of me and my wife Gillian on our wedding day in 2015. (below) It was the happiest moment of my life – but one I thought I’d never see.

Back in 2012, I was told I had testicular cancer. I was terrified, thinking I wouldn’t live to marry Gillian or hold our baby in my arms. It wasn’t until I met Nicola, a brilliant Clinical Nurse Specialist at The Beatson, that I felt more positive. She became my lifeline, explaining my treatment plan, answering my questions, and reassuring me when I was down.

Then, in 2013, I was given the all-clear. I could live again, marry Gillian and build a future together. Later, we got the news that I should be able to have kids. It was just wonderful. But I couldn’t have got through it all without Nicola, which is why I’ll be forever thankful to Beatson Cancer Charity and the generous legacies that help fund amazing people like her."
