"Developing this tracer for prostate cancer would not have been possible without the legacy we received."

Two years ago, a generous supporter committed to leaving a gift in his Will, requesting that the funds should be applied to research into prostate cancer. Beatson Cancer Charity received his legacy and we were able to invest it in some very exciting research that promises huge benefits for people with prostate cancer.

A research team at the Beatson Institute is working to enhance the ability of PET (Positron Emission Tomography) imaging technology in giving far more detailed information on prostate, lung, colonic, brain, liver and pancreatic tumours.

Whereas CAT and MRI scans help clinicians to understand the size and shape of tumours, PET imaging can actually see how the tumour functions. This research also allows medics to measure the speed and effectiveness of treatment, while also aiming to reduce side effects for patients.

Beatson Cancer Charity knew that the team needed funds to develop a PET tracer specifically for prostate tumours and felt that this would be a fitting tribute to our donor’s generosity.

Developing this tracer for prostate cancer would not have been possible without the legacy we received. Leaving a gift in your Will to Beatson Cancer Charity is an immensely valuable and meaningful way to ensure future generations will benefit from the very best cancer care and treatment possible.
