"Mr Robertson is a huge supporter of the Beatson and was captivated by the many treatments and wellbeing services available at the Beatson for patients and their families."

John Robertson MP kindly spent time visiting staff and volunteers at the Beatson recently, arranged by the Beatson Cancer Charity.

Mr Robertson is a huge supporter of the Beatson and was captivated by the many treatments and wellbeing services available at the Beatson for patients and their families.

He met with Consultant Radiographer Karen Moore whose post is funded by the charity. She explained about the latest radiotherapy treatments and showed Mr Robertson a Linear Accelerator machine which costs around £1.5million each. Mr Robertson was amazed at the technology available and how many patients the Beatson treats in a day.

He also met with Clinical Nurse Specialist Nicola Thomson whose post is also funded by the charity. She explained to Mr Robertson her vital role at the Beatson, told him about the latest care to treat patients with kidney, ovarian and testicular cancer and showed him around the Beatson’s outpatients area.

Mr Robertson was then whisked up to the charity’s wellbeing centre where he was shown around the fantastic facility by centre co-ordinator Rhona Scally. He was delighted to see a dedicated space for patients and their families to get away from the wards, relax, read the paper, complete a jigsaw, watch TV, take advantage of a massage or beauty treatment or just be themselves.

We’d like to say a huge thank you to Mr Robertson for giving up his time to visit the Beatson. From sponsoring our Westminster Reception to spending time with staff at the Beatson, we are really grateful for all of his support.
