SHAWS Workshops

Introducing Our Upcoming 2026 Workshops

Tuesday 10th February 10am-12pm (In-person) - Confidence building at work

Through supportive exercises and practical tools, this workshop aims to help you explore how to manage workplace stress and embrace your strengths. We will provide strategies for building resilience and improving communication.  This will help you to regain confidence while navigating the transition back to work after a cancer diagnosis.

Wednesday 18th March 1-2.30pm (Online) - Decision making skills at work

Following a long absence from work, most people will experience a loss of confidence, not only in their ability to do their job but also in their ability to make decisions. This is normal and expected but can make a return to work more challenging. In this session, we will give you the tools to start making decisions towards what it is important to you.

Monday 27th April 10am-12.30pm (In-person) - Return to work planning

This workshop is designed to support people who are preparing to return to work after a cancer diagnosis. We will consider the practical aspects of returning to work, including adjustments and phased returns.  We will discuss what these are and how they will help you transition back to work.  We will also reflect on how to balance work alongside your ongoing health needs.

Wednesday 20th May 1-2.30pm (Online) - Adjusting to working life after cancer

During this workshop, our Counselling Psychologist Marta and one of our SHAW practitioners will lead you in exploring the difficult physical and mental challenges of returning to work following a cancer diagnosis and look at different tools and techniques which can help in the transition back to working life.

Friday 12th June 11am-12pm (Online) - Being a carer while balancing work

This workshop is designed for individuals who are juggling the emotional and practical challenges of caring for a loved one with cancer, while also managing the demands of their employment. During the workshop we will explore employers’ responsibilities when it comes to supporting carers, as well as identifying practical tools for your own self-care.

Tuesday 21st July 1.30pm-3pm (Online) - Communication in the Workplace

Communicating with your employer after a cancer diagnosis can sometimes feel daunting. Join the SHAWS practitioners to explore different communication styles and techniques and look at ways to manage challenging conversations. We will provide tips to help you feel more assertive, clear and confident in all your workplace interactions.

Wednesday 26th August 1pm-2.30pm (Online) - Values based living

We often know what we don’t want in life, such as anxiety, worries or stress, but an important foundation is understanding what you do want. This is especially relevant following an illness and a long-term absence from work. This session will help you clarify your values, that is what is important to you, the things in life that make it worth living and how you want your life to look like moving forward.

Tuesday 15th September 10am-12pm (In-person) - Confidence building at work

Through supportive exercises and practical tools, this workshop aims to help you explore how to manage workplace stress and embrace your strengths. We will provide strategies for building resilience and improving communication.  This will help you to regain confidence while navigating the transition back to work after a cancer diagnosis.

Tuesday 6th October 10am-12.30pm (In-person) - Return to work planning

Wednesday 18th November 1pm-2.30pm (Online) - Managing emotions in the workplace

The emotional impact of a cancer diagnosis is often not realised until after treatment finishes. This may come at around the same time that someone might be considering a return to work. During this workshop, our Counselling Psychologist Marta and one of our SHAW practitioners will lead you in exploring and understanding the strong and difficult emotions associated with a cancer diagnosis. We will look at different ways to manage these in relation to the challenges that may arise in a work environment.
