Counselling Service

Supporting Emotional Wellbeing Alongside Cancer Care

At Beatson Cancer Charity, we recognise that cancer affects more than the body, it impacts every aspect of a person’s life, including their emotional psychological wellbeing.

Our counselling service offers patients, carers, and loved ones over the age of 18 a safe, confidential space to explore the complex emotions that can arise at any stage.

We work in partnership with colleagues across NHS and third sector to ensure that emotional support is accessible, appropriate and person-centred.

Our Counselling Service Is Available To:
  • Individuals living with a cancer diagnosis (at any stage)
  • Those bereaved by cancer
  • Family members, carers, and loved ones affected by cancer

Our counsellors are trained and experienced in working with people affected by cancer.  They offer a compassionate, therapeutic space where individuals can:

  • Explore and process difficult emotions such as fear, anger, loss or uncertainty
  • Develop coping strategies to manage anxiety and change
  • Strengthen communication and relationships
  • Adjust to life after treatment or following loss
  • Reconnect with meaning, purpose and identity

All counselling is free of charge and delivered in confidence by qualified counsellors who work within an ethical framework (eg BACP Ethical Framework or similar).

 What Happens After Referral

Once we receive a referral:

  1. The individual will be contacted for an initial assessment

  2. This helps us understand their current needs, availability, and preferences (in-person or virtual)

  1. They will then be matched with a counsellor suited to their circumstances

  1. Sessions are typically 50 minutes

We work closely with referrers to ensure continuity of care and to maintain an integrated approach to wellbeing support.

Together, We Care

Your referral helps ensure that every person affected by cancer has access to emotional support when they need it most.

By working collaboratively, we can help patients and families navigate the emotional challenges of cancer with compassion, dignity and hope.
