Follow Glasgow’s Sea of yellow to Raise vital Funds for Beatson Cancer Charity

3rd Jul 2015

This week Beatson Cancer Charity  launched its second ‘Off The Beatson Track’ sponsored walk and this time it will be even bigger, better and more yellow than before!

We are appealing to everyone who has been touched by the wonderful care and support provided by The Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre to get involved and don their best and brightest yellow fancy dress to take part in this fun-filled event on Sunday 16th August.

To launch the event, supporters of the charity and participants of last year’s successful event made up of former patients of the Beatson, family members and Beatson staff took a walk by the Riverside Museum, which will be the start and end point of the walk, on a specially created Yellow Brick Road.

The six and a half mile walk on fully accessible paths will take in some of the iconic sights of Glasgow’s West End including The Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre that the charity works so hard to support. There will also be a street party inside and outside the Riverside Museum with lots of unique and exciting entertainment to keep all the walkers and crowds entertained throughout the day.

Charlene Elliott, head of fundraising at the Beatson Cancer Charity, said: “Being able to bring this event back for the second time is a real testament to the loyal support of everyone who took part last year. Again we’ll be working hard to make this event one that the whole family and even dogs can enjoy – regardless of age or fitness level.

“Over 1,500 people participated in Off The Beatson Track last year, raising an incredible £150,000 to help support Beatson patients and their families and we are hoping that this year will be even bigger and better. There will be a real party atmosphere on the day and we want to see a sea of yellow making its way through Glasgow’s West End again.”

All funds raised from the event will help the charity provide specialist staff posts including nursing, radiography, physics and research based staff as well as funding enhanced medical equipment, innovative service developments and novel research projects and educational initiatives to support the 8000 new patients who attend the The Beatson and its satellite locations each year.
