Boots and Balls charity night

Boots and Balls Walk

18th May 2018

Good friends to walk to all Scottish football stadiums in aid of charity

Friends Siobhan Mann and Chris Sayle are setting off on an incredible 865-mile walk, visiting all 42 Scottish Football League stadiums in 15 days for charity. The pair will start their epic challenge on 26 May at Ross County stadium in Dingwall and finish at Albion Rovers in their hometown of Coatbridge on 9 June.

Siobhan and Chris hope to reach their target of £5000, which will then be split between Beatson Cancer Charity and Ronald McDonald House Glasgow.

Chris came up with the idea a few years ago initially as a cycle challenge but due to knee surgery it was postponed.

He said: “This was until I walked the Clyde and Union Canal last year in aid of the Stroke Association. I walked with a friend who had two strokes at the age of 33, and it inspired me to rethink my challenge.

“The reason I’ve chosen Beatson Cancer Charity as one of the charities, is because everyone knows someone who has been affected by this horrible illness. And I’m lucky that I am in a position of good health where I can do things that a lot of people might take for granted, to raise money for those in need.

“We are looking to raise £5000 from the walk, but we would obviously like to give both charities as much as possible.”

Chris first told Siobhan about the challenge when they were picking their kids up from school.

Siobhan said: “I was at the school gates with Chris when he told me about his wee idea, and I thought why not, I’ll join you. I am that daft - in a good way!

“Chris worked out the average number of steps per mile to be 1.6 million over 15 days. I was shocked to say the least, but it’s for two great causes, so the blisters will be worth it!

“I don’t think for a minute it’s going to be an easy challenge, but I’ll enjoy it and there will be so many people that will benefit from the money raised.”

Maisie Hamilton, Beatson Cancer Charity’s Community Fundraising Manager, said: “This is an incredible and unique challenge, and we wish Siobhan and Chris the best of luck.

“Beatson Cancer Charity is so lucky to have such wonderful supporters, who will literally walk hundreds of miles to raise money for us and the cancer patients we are here for.”

Beatson Cancer Charity supports people affected by cancer, making the journey easier by transforming the way cancer is cared for and funded. The charity provides services, as well as funding specialists, research and education to invest in a better future for cancer patients and their families.
