A group of amateur cyclists from Stewart Milne Group who are currently taking part in a 730 mile charity cycle have visited The Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre in Glasgow to see first-hand the support provided by the charity.
The team are currently just over half way through the “bike4forty” challenge, part of the company’s 40th anniversary celebrations, which will see the eight members of staff travel a total of 738 miles over nine days to raise funds for the Archie Foundation, Beatson Cancer Charity and the Christie Cancer Charity based in Aberdeen, Glasgow and Manchester respectively.
The group is now on day five of the challenge, which will see them visit every Stewart Milne development in the country, and visited Beatson Cancer Charity as part of today’s route (Monday 11 April). They will finish their cycle at Stewart Milne Group headquarters on Friday 15 April.
The cyclists, who aim to raise £40,000 for the charities, are Aileen Beverly and Joe Morris from Aberdeen; Gary Milne and Alan Sneddon from Edinburgh; Niall Campbell, Patrick Gardiner and Stuart Henderson from Glasgow; and Manchester-based Stephen Daintith.
Gary Milne said: “The most important part of this challenge for us is raising funds for our chosen charities. Visiting Beatson Cancer Charity reminded us why we are doing this and it is wonderful to see the fantastic work they do.”
David Welch, chief executive of Beatson Cancer Charity, said: “Each member of the Bike4Forty team has shown an incredible commitment to fundraising for Beatson Cancer Charity. Their achievement is nothing short of amazing and my sincere thanks go to them all as well as everyone at Stewart Milne Group for choosing us as one of the beneficiaries of this fantastic challenge.
“Watching the cyclists arrive at The Beatson was very humbling and inspiring – we’ve received support not only from the fantastic eight cyclists but also everyone across the organisation and we really appreciate everyone’s time and dedication to fundraising for the 8,000 new patients who attend The Beatson and its related facilities each year. All money raised will go a very long way in the fight against cancer now and in the future and for that we are truly thankful.
“We wish the team all the best for the next leg of their epic journey and look forward to cheering them on again at the finish line.”
