Comet, the super-cute golden retriever, charmed his way into the hearts of the general public – now he will take the lead as Ambassadog for the year!

This year Beatson Cancer Charity launched it's very first Paw Walk event, in association with National Dog Week, to encourage people to get their dogs involved in some fundraising. Alongside this, was a search to find the charity's official Ambassadog.

Throughout the tough times during the pandemic, many have found comfort in their furry best friend. We wanted to celebrate this whilst giving our supporters a chance to raise awareness and funds for Beatson Cancer Charity.

We were blown away by the response to the Paw Walk, which raised an amazing £5,000! We were also inundated with gorgeous entries for the Ambassadog competition. Comet, who is eight months old, was shortlisted alongside beautiful labrador, Brodie. The decision was put to the public decide, via social media, which pooch should win. Out of 225 votes cast, Comet secured 168 to be crowned this year’s Ambassadog.

Owner Claire Curran said:

“The charity is super close to my family’s heart as my mum battled with cancer for 14 years and The Beatson was always there to support us. So in a bid to try and give something back, I took part in that. Then the charity announced they were looking for an ambassadog for their event called ‘Off The Beatson Track’ and I decided to put Comet forward.”

Claire added:

“It was so nice and so emotional when Comet won. It’s just really special to have him recognised with the charity that  helped my mum and our family so much. For me I love having Comet involved, but I am just so glad I am able to give back to such an amazing charity. He wears his wee charity top and medal and he looks so proud. I am so proud of him, he’s a great dog. He’s no idea what he’s doing but it means the world to me.”
