Like every other organisation Beatson Cancer Charity has had to make a number of changes to the way we operate as a result of the COVID 19 public health crisis.

Whilst our offices remain temporarily closed we are still very much active in providing support for people at the Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre. We continue to deliver services where we can in the hospital and here, digitally via our website.

We are presently planning a phased return of our services in the Wellbeing Centre liaising closely with the hospital’s management team and senior nursing staff. We have re-started our Specialist Health at Work Service providing valuable support to people during what is a difficult time. We will grow and develop this service in response to emerging needs.

We have recently launched a telephone befriending service for people who may be feeling lonely or isolated - learn more here. We are providing care and comfort packs for patients in the hospital and for outpatients which includes key essentials.

We are in the process of developing support for people who may be experiencing increased anxiety and uncertainty. These are all new initiatives which will add to our portfolio of services. As always, we have fantastic support from our volunteers who add so much value to everything we do (Read here) and hopefully, we’ll even see the return of the popular Beatson Café on a reduced basis over the coming weeks. We intend to keep a positive and active role supporting people and our NHS colleagues at the Beatson hospital, the best we can.

We are closely following Scottish Government announcements which may allow for some social distancing measures being relaxed as this will help us be deliver support for people in a safe and considered way.

Despite these difficult times, there’s also business as usual, where we continue to help our colleagues at The Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre to fund life-saving research and a number of vital specialist roles

If you can, please do continue to support us throughout this difficult time.
