Beatson Cancer Charity’s Bard & his Belles Burns Supper has raised an incredible £50,487.38 which will allow the charity to continue investing in scientific research, funded posts and patient and care services.
On Friday 17 January, over 400 guests came together to celebrate Scotland’s favourite poet, Robert Burns, and the ladies that inspired him. Guest speaker for the evening was Benny Higgins, currently the executive chairman of Buccleuch, strategic advisor to the First Minister and formerly the chief executive of Tesco Bank.
Benny was joined by BBC reporter and presenter Alison Walker, who was the host for the evening, and after-dinner entertainment was performed by Glasgow-born singer Terry Neason. Benny said:
I was delighted to be the guest speaker at Beatson Cancer Charity’s Burns Supper and experience such a fantastic event. “The work of the charity and the difference it makes to the lives of patients and their families, is just incredible. “Your continued support and generosity will allow Beatson Cancer Charity to continue investing in and providing cancer care services for many more patients.”
Benny HigginsGuests enjoyed a three-course Scottish-themed dinner, a range of Scottish music and entertainment from family trio Cup O’Joe and Ceilidh band Well Plaid, as well as auctions and a quiz.
Thanks to generous donors, auction prizes included a chance to join the Radio Clyde presenters in the studio, a pair of VIP tickets to TRNSMT festival and an original piece of art by Elaine Johnston.
Martin Cawley, Beatson Cancer Charity Chief Executive, said: “The Bard and his Belles event is always a great start to the year and a fantastic opportunity to spend time with as well as thank all of our supporters.
The amount raised is unbelievable - and I would like to say a huge thank you to each person who made that happen. “At Beatson Cancer Charity we believe that no one should face cancer on their own, and because of the dedicated and generous support we receive, we can continue to support even more people and families for years to come.”
