Beatson Cancer Charity has received a generous donation of £55,000 from Stewart Milne Homes Central Scotland and Barclays. The two companies have come together over the past three years to engage in regular fundraising efforts, including bake sales, dress down days and most recently a charity ball, in aid of the very worthy cause.  Two computers will also be donated to the charity from Stewart Milne Homes.

All funds raised will help the charity provide vital specialist staff posts including nursing, radiography, physics and research based staff as well as funding enhanced medical equipment, innovative service developments, research projects and educational initiatives to support the 8,000 new patients who attend the The Beatson West of Scotland and its related facilities each year.

David Welch,  Chief Executive at Beatson Cancer Charity said: “We are absolutely thrilled to receive this incredible donation of £55,000 from Stewart Milne Homes. This amount is truly amazing and we are so grateful to the team for their unwavering support for Beatson Cancer Charity. Alarmingly, more than one in three people are affected by cancer in the West of Scotland - the highest cancer rate in Europe. That’s why it is so vital to have world-leading facilities like The Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre and its related facilities available to anyone at any time.

“This significant donation will help us continue to provide much-needed funding and deliver unique services to enhance the wonderful care thousands of patients receive each year, therefore we are truly thankful to Stewart Milne Homes for its support and determination.”

Stewart Milne CBE, executive chairman of Stewart Milne Group, said: “The Beatson does invaluable work in Scotland and it’s a cause our staff are hugely passionate about supporting. Stewart Milne Homes has been creating communities for 40 years, and we know that within those communities so many people are affected by cancer, so we feel proud and honoured to be able to give back to such a worthy cause.”

Donna Meldrum, business development manager at Barclays, commented: “We are delighted with the amount raised with Stewart Milne Homes and would like to thank everyone who supported us to make this happen. Alongside our 5 Million Young Futures commitment, Barclays has a fantastic community investment programme that encourages employees to get involved in the causes we care about.

"It’s about giving back our skills, time and energy to support our local communities – so we’re thrilled to have raised this money.”
