Your 2017 Beatson New Year's Resolutions

It’s that time of year again when everyone is asking that same question…“What’s your New Year’s Resolution?” – we felt it was only  right share our very own Beatson resolutions to take note of for 2017! 


1. get fit!

One of the most popular resolutions that pops into everyone’s head! But seriously it could make a lasting difference. By keeping physical activity you can help to maintain a healthy weight, which in turn can reduce your risk of cancer.  - why not check out some of our challenge events with the aim to keep yourself active this year.

2. give a little

Why not make a small donation? Save up your loose change over the year in our home money box – every penny counts!

3. quit smoking 

The use of tobacco is one of the major causes of various types of cancers. According to the NHS: "Lung cancer is responsible for around a quarter of cancer deaths in the UK.” - Make this the year you finally chuck them!

4. organise a charity fundraiser.  

There so many things you do for this! Coffee mornings, a quiz night at your pub, or why not create a buzz with a wear it yellow day in the office or at your school!?

5. off the beatson track 

It’s the biggest day in Beatson Cancer Charity's fundraising calendar which you simply cannot miss! With over 5,000 participants taking part in the last three years, the event continues to grow as we all stand up to cancer in our annual 10k walk around Glasgow’s West End. We are delighted to announce the event will take place on the 27th August 2017! Save the date!

6. dry january and beyond

Everyone’s talking about it this month eh! Drinking too much alcohol is a big risk factor in the development of many cancers such as mouth, throat, bowel and breast cancer. If you are a regular drinker why not consider cutting down your intake of alcohol this year? You can find out some simple ways here.

7. volunteer

By supporting The Beatson and giving up your time you will be play vital role in our commitment to fight cancer in wide variety ways. Whether you’re part of a cheering squad, greeting patients at our welcome desk or helping out the office staff - you will definitely be making a vital contribution to our determination to beat cancer.
