Beatson Cancer Charity yeserday launched its annual fundraising initiative Big Beatson Bake Off with baking dream team ‘The Three Sisters Bake’ at the helm.
Big Beatson Bake Off will run throughout October serving up everything from buns and baps, cupcakes and cookies to flans and fruitcakes to raise as much money as possible.
The event will encourage people of all ages to get involved and put their baking talents to the test, helping beat cancer with every mouthful. Budding bakers will be able to raise funds for the charity by inviting friends over for tea and homemade cake, holding a bake sale at school or by running a bake off at work.
Gillian Reith from ambassadors ‘The Three Sisters Bake’ said: “My sisters and I are honoured to be fronting the Big Beatson Bake Off and want to encourage as many people as possible to get their mitts on and fire up their ovens.
“Baking is such a fun activity and it really doesn’t matter if you are a star baker or an absolute beginner, everyone can get a slice of the action and raise much needed funds for this fantastic charity.”
All funds raised from the event will help the charity provide specialist staff posts including nursing, radiography, physics and research based staff as well as funding enhanced medical equipment, innovative service developments, research projects and educational initiatives to support the 8000 new patients who attend the The Beatson and its related facilities each year.
Charlene Elliott, head of fundraising for Beatson Cancer Charity, said: “The country has gone baking mad once again and we want everyone to get involved and raise funds to support the charity at the same time as having fun with friends and family.
“We held our very own event today to kick start the campaign but now it is time for the public to master their muffins, finesse their flapjacks and take part in the Big Beatson Bake Off.”
