Big thanks to fantastic fundraiser and #teambeatson member, Rona Stewart, who has raised an incredible £3, 061 by running the Inverness Half Marathon in March – what an amazing amount!Rona decided to run her first half marathon in aid of the Beatson Cancer Charity as one day she was out and about training for the race, she ran past the Beatson and it clicked that she should not only complete the race but also raise some funds for a worthwhile cause, and so she chose us!Rona’s reason for starting up running is all thanks to her inspirational boyfriend, David, who bravely fought testicular cancer four years ago. David also ran the half marathon with Rona which was a hugely special moment and lifetime achievement for both of them.During David’s illness, he continued to keep as fit as possible. He ran races shortly after his operation and treatment at the Beatson and always kept a positive attitude and showed great determination at all times. His hard efforts and dedication to raising awareness of testicular cancer and raising money for the charity has been truly amazing because he knows first-hand what valuable work the charity does and he’s been through it all himself and understands the importance of helping others.Rona’s mum, Joan Barclay, has also sadly been affected by cancer, but she always remained strong and incredibly determined to beat the disease.Rona says: “I admire them both so much for showing such great courage throughout their battles. Unfortunately too many of our families and friends have been affected by cancer, but have received an exceptional service at the Beatson and the charity’s wellbeing centre which provides practical comfort and support for patients.“The centre is designed as a ‘retreat’ for patients and a place of calm where they can also receive a range of therapies on offer to help make their time at the Beatson that bit easier. I am absolutely delighted that the Beatson Cancer Charity has been chosen by my employer, BTO, as its charity of the year.“Please help me give back as much as I can for this great cause, in honour of all the amazing people I know that have benefitted and will benefit from this service.”We’d like to say a heartfelt and massive thank you to Rona, David, Joan and to the rest of her family and friends and to all at BTO who donated to Rona’s fundraising – this is an amazing achievement and one we are very grateful for!In the picture we have David McPherson, Rona Stewart and her Dream Team - Riona McNab, Colin MacDonald, Iona McMurdo, Rona's sister and her husband Andrew.
