The two balcony areas at our Beatson Cancer Charity’s wellbeing centre have been transformed just in time for spring!

Over the last 12 months staff at the centre have been developing plans to make the balcony area more aesthetically pleasing for patients. The support from staff, volunteers, fundraisers and various companies in-kind has been truly brilliant and we have so many wonderful people to thank.

We must say a huge thank you to Lisella Hutton who designed the area and who is also a volunteer at the centre and landscape architect. Irene Johnstone, Ian Weir, Angus McKay, Brian Horsborough, Binnie Murray and Lisella also project managed the upgrade so a big thanks to them too!

Over five weekends the team worked really hard through all-weathers to finish the beautiful patios. A green-fingered thanks must also go to Caitlin Buchanan, Grace Stewart, Hazel Stewart, Barbara Oliver, John Oliver, Steve Russell, Edward Thomson, Stephen Docherty from the Glasgow Tree Lovers Society and all the other contractors who gave up their time to help.

The project received great support from Claire Galloway who raised over £6000 which her workplace, Three, match funded and increased the total to £12, 000. The Glasgow Tree Lovers Society also donated £1, 500 to fund the beautiful plants and planters.

You can take a look at our before and after photos – here! The feedback from patients has been excellent and the visual presence of seasonal plants and blooms has an immensely positive and therapeutic effect on patients.

Thanks again to all involved!
