Nine year old Cara Telford takes on charity challenges for the Beatson

5th May 2014

Well Team Beatson we’d like to introduce you to a very special ‘nine and a bit year old’ - Cara Telford.Cara’s mum, Nicola, contacted us to tell us about her lovely daughter’s recent fundraising for the Beatson and we just had to share her story.Sadly Cara and her family have been affected by cancer in a number of ways. Her Nan passed away as a result of the disease and her Aunt is currently going through chemotherapy. Unfortunately her Gramps has advanced terminal prostate cancer.Nicola says: “Everything is a bit negative around Cara at the moment with the big C word. Fundraising was our way of trying to turn something positive out of it. She wears her yellow Beatson t-shirt with so much pride. Thank you for saying thank you as it has made her day.”Cara has raised just over £211 by taking part in the Mugdock Mile and Race for Life with more money coming in by the hour – phew! Here’s a message from Cara herself which we received via e-mail:“Dear Beatson,I wanted to let you know I have raised 211 pounds for you. I hope you can make people better with it like my grandpa and my auntie Lesley.Love fromCara, age 9 and a bit”A big Beatson thank you to Cara for her amazing fundraising efforts and support, and for her lovely e-mail!If any youngsters you know are fundraising like Cara for the Beatson, why not let us know? If you need any fundraising advice or materials, just e-mail fundraising@beatsoncancercharity.org or call 0141 212 0505.
