As a general manager of Avenue Coffee Roasting Co, on Glasgow’s Great Western Road, Todd Whiteford specialises in procuring and serving high quality beverages from around the world.
However, although coffee is his first priority, he also doubles as one of our ambassadors for Beatson Cancer Charity.
Originally from Perth, Todd 31, received chemotherapy at The Beatson for testicular cancer some time ago, and witnessed first-hand how the centre provides patients with encouragement, support and expertise to battle the disease.
Inspiring him to give something back to those who had helped him and his family, Todd and best friend Ross took on the gruelling Marathon Des Sables in 2014, running 140 miles across the Sahara desert.
Now back in Scotland and using his professional skills to demonstrate his support for The Beatson, Todd has created a unique coffee - The Beatson Blend - for our Beatson Café which is due to open this summer.
Offering patients, visitors and staff a peaceful, comfortable setting to enjoy refreshments in the heart of the hospital, the Beatson Café will provide a significant benefit to visitors and patients alike.
Enthusiastic about his new concoction, Todd is excited about it being served in the cafe: ‘A unique blend of speciality-grade Brazilian and Sumatran beans, the project has been great to work on with the charity, and I’m looking forward to seeing it in the new café later this summer.' he said. Kathleen McLaren, trading manager at Beatson Cancer Charity, added: ‘We’re so grateful to Todd and the team for designing and blending a very special coffee for the new Beatson Café. It’s going to be a fantastic facility which will be available throughout the day for everyone to enjoy and will provide a place to feel at ease in a large, busy hospital environment’.
