Life story of actor and former patient Iain McColl to aid the Beatson

12th Dec 2014

We would like to say a massive #teambeatson thank you to one of our kind and generous supporters, Martha Brindley.  Since the death of her brother, Scots actor and comedian Iain McColl, Martha has spent the last two years keeping her promise to honour his final wish, that she would finish his autobiography to raise money for the amazing staff and nurses at the Beatson. For Martha, that has meant a year of sifting through notes, transcribing recorded conversations and contacting friends and colleagues from the showbiz world to allow them to pay their own tributes.  Martha’s determination to raise as much funds as possible led her to self-publish the book, McColl of the Wild, with all of the royalties from sales being donated to Beatson Cancer Charity. Iain was mourned by the biggest names of stage and screen when he passed away from cancer last July.  Star of City Lights and Rab C Nesbitt – Iain was known for making other people laugh, and he was entertaining other patients and families at the Beatson right to the last moment.  Martha said: “So many people have fond memories of Iain and everyone always tells me about the time they met him or saw him in some show. “I’m glad people remember him as an actor and hopefully as somebody who has given something to others and wants other people to benefit. The treatment he got at the Beatson was amazing and that’s why we wanted to do something to help them.”We are truly grateful to Iain for his kindness and to Martha for her unwavering support.  If you would like to purchase McColl of the Wild in paperback or Kindle and help raise funds for Beatson Cancer Charity please visit
