We were delighted to have supporter and #teambeatson volunteer Jules Durnin sign up for #ChallengeArrochar last week!
Being a former patient at the Beatson, Jules was determined to give something back to the hospital and has been a regular volunteer on our Welcome Desk and in the Wellbeing Centre. Having gone through treatment herself, Jules knows how these valuable services help patients. She said:
“The thought of coming to the Beatson is terrifying and uncertain, but being able to help I can take them away from all of that. Even having something as simple as a tea lady smiling as she goes round is a massive help to what patients are going through.”
Jules would often benefit from our Beatson Cancer Charity therapists as she went through her treatment.
“When I was being treated I would feel horrible so I would book an appointment with one of therapists and they made the whole experience that much better making me feel relaxed which really helped.”
Jules believes Challenge Arrochar is a great opportunity for people to get out in the beautiful Scottish countryside and help the Beatson. As an avid hill walker she knows how beneficial it was to her recovery:
“As a hill walker myself, I know anyone can do it! When I finished my treatment walking definitely helped me and I could see this in my recovery. Anyone doing Challenge Arrochar will have an incredible time taking part!”
With just less than two weeks to go until Challenge Arrochar there is still time to sign up.
