Hi Team B! Bella Beatson here.
Well, what a year. I can’t believe I have bee-n buzzing around The Beatson for nearly 365 full days. I celebrate my first birthday at this year’s Off The Beatson Track, and I can’t wait. I’m hoping somebody has got me a crown so I can be Queen Bee for the day.
I thought I’d share some of my highlights from the past year, but there have been so many that I don’t even know where to begin. Grab yourself a cuppa and let’s get started…
One of my very first jobs in September was to get my picture taken at Partick Thistle Football Club who were announcing us as their Charity of the Year. I got to meet my new best friend Kingsley (don’t tell anyone but I think he fancies me, and who can blame him? It’s all in the way I flutter my wings) and talk tactics with a few footballers. Ain’t no wings stopping this Bee from scoring a hattrick!
I’ve also been in to lots of schools and nurseries to deliver some world class high fives, dabs and dances. My first experience was at Kelvindale Primary School to see my favourite human, Emma Mcginlay, who created me! She entered the Beatson mascot competition and won with yours truly! She’s bee-rilliant. I also got to go to St Timothy’s who had a Beatson Bee fundraising day in January – I was surrounded by miniature bumbles! I love going in to schools and nurseries because I get to raise awareness of the charity (but I also get lots of cuddles.)
One of the buzziest days of last year was the day of the Santa Dash & our Christmas Concert. In the morning, I spent my time with 8,000 Santas (they have a cheek to say ‘a swarm of bee’s – a swarm of Santa’s more like!) and Kingsley as they took to the streets to raise money for Team Beatson. In the afternoon, mistletoe in hand, I went to the City Halls to take part in our Christmas concert. Dishy David Farrell was hosting it, and it was worth the trip just to see him dancing to Jingle Bells.
There have been so many memories, my head is buzzing with them all. I can’t leave without mentioning Off The Beatson Track. My ultimate highlight has got to be seeing nearly 2000 people decked out in their yellow, ready to walk 10k round Glasgow to raise funds and awareness for the charity. It made me slightly emotional, my eyes were stinging! This year is going to be even bigger, better and brighter – it’s such a fun day and of course (in case I hadn’t mentioned) IT’S MY BIRTHDAY! Please come along and celebrate with me. Even better, Dishy David is hosting the day along with my gorgeous pal Laura Boyd.
I’ve had the best year at Team Beatson, the humans look after me so well. I can’t wait to see where the next year takes me, one things for sure – I’m looking forward to spreading my wings.
‘Til next time gang
